Udupi: Milagres English Medium Eco Club organizes 'Neerathon – Walk for Water'

Udupi, Oct 2: Eco Club of Milagres English Medium organized a 'Neerathon – Walk for Water' as part of Global Climate Strike Week celebrations.

In September, a 15-year-old girl, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, stunned the world with her fiery speech stressing the need for serious concern for the environment. This inspired thousands across the world in about 150 countries to start ‘Global Week for Future’ celebrations since September 20.

India too has expressed its support. From then on serious protests and demonstrations have begun across India especially in Delhi and Bengaluru to conscientize people through schools and colleges about the need to save natural resources and safeguard the environment.

Global Climate Strike Week celebrations have now begun across the world. As part of the Climate Strike Week Celebrations, Eco Clubs of Milagres English Medium Primary & High school Kallianpur organized 'Neerathon – Walk for Water' on October 1.



Manjula, councillor of Gopalpura 10th ward, Santhekatte was the chief guest. She flagged off the awareness walk from Kallianpur Post office to Santhekatte. About 400 students participated in the walkathon for Water in Blue apparel and well-matched caps. After reaching the junction, a group of students danced and shouted slogans and created awareness in the people.

Lions Club Kallianpur supported the event. Ln Alfred Cornelio and Ln Rony were present. PTA members Jayeesh Kamath, Michael Mendonsa, Swati Nayak, Fr Lancy Fernandes SJ, principal, Veera D’Silva, headmistress and staff members were present.

Mariet and Akshatha, Eco Club co-ordinators of the high school and primary planned the logistics of the event.
