Panaji: Mahila Congress blames laxity of Goa, Maharashtra governments for human trafficking

Panaji, Sep 21: Prime minister Narendra Modi has been requested by All India Mahila Congress to take note of the trafficking of women from Maharashtra to Goa for sexual trade in the absence of stern action by the states involved.

A recent study states that more than 30% women rescued in Goa in sex trade are of Maharashtra origin.

Apsara Reddy, national general secretary of the unit of Congress urged Maharashtra government to take concrete steps in this connection. She stressed that Goa government too is not doing enough in this direction. “Many cases of rape and abuse are stuck in botched up investigations while women and children have become more vulnerable,” she added.
