The outgoing president of past two terms, Bhaskara Sherigar, general secretary Puja Shetty, treasurer Sharath Amin and executive committee members thanked Tulu Koota members for their support and welcomed new president, general secretary, treasurer, directors and executive committee members.

The annual general body meeting was held during the annual outdoor activity, ‘Jokulatige 2019’, which is an opportunity for the people of Tulunadu to feel the touch of their motherland. Boston Tulu Koota has been organising ‘Jokulatige’ every summer for the past six years. Jokulatige literally means “kids play” in Tulu language.

Main attraction and tradition of the event was home cooked Tulunadu delicacies from volunteer families. More than 20 families cooked 31 items like punarpuli saaru, pathrode, kudutha chutney, moode, idli, chicken sukka, gasi, Kundapura chicken, yetti gasi, kodakkene, jackfruit sukka, mensikayi, mango rasayana, payasa, the list goes on. Sumptuous lunch satisfied the taste buds. Taste and authenticity of these delicacies lies in the family recipes that have been passed down from generations.

After the election for new committee, organisers planned rural rare games of Tulunadu like Tarayida Katta, Lagori, cricket, volleyball, sack race, sprint etc. Tulunadu sports and games are other main attractions of Jokulatige. It was really exciting to see tiny legs inside the bag in kid’s sack race and the confidence in face of every kid in sprint activities. Excitement was not just limited to kids; ‘Tarayida Katta’ was a popular game and thrilled the participants. The gala ended with the musical chairs for ladies.

This event also provided an opportunity to socialize, meet friends, share the summer experience, talk about good old days spent in motherland etc. Hot tea and tasty golibaje were prepared on site by the volunteers. All the winners were honoured with certificates. Organisers thanked all the volunteers who helped in audio, video, photography, cleanup, setup, logistics, games, sports, food and made Jokulatige a successful event.
