Udupi, Sep 14: Praveen Naik (32) from Manchikumeri, who has been accused of pulling away gold chain from the neck of Lalita Naik on September 12 has been arrested by the Manipal police. On being produced in court, he was remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

Lalita Naik was walking by the side of road on September 12 morning from near the agricultural field at Manchikody when a person wearing raincoat and helmet had suddenly approached her and tried to pull the gold chain she was wearing around her neck.

As the woman tried to escape, she had fallen into the field. The accused had returned to the woman who was getting up, and pulled at the chain again. As Lalita held tightly on to the chain, a piece of the chain had remained in her hands, while the robber had made good his escape with the other piece.

Lalita had identified the chain snatcher then. The gold chain concerned has been recovered from him.
