Yogi's reshuffle a message against corruption, non-performance

Lucknow, Aug 20 (IANS): The Yogi Adityanath cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday will send out a strong message against corruption and non-performers.

The BJP, through this reshuffle, wants to make it amply clear that under-performance and corruption will no longer be tolerated.

The ministers who are being dropped are the ones who have bene facing allegations since the past two and a half years.

Anupama Jaiswal, the Basic Education Minister, has been facing charges of corruption as well as poor performance. School children, last year, did not get sweaters during winters. The shoes given to them this year were of poor quality. Books were not distributed on time and the minister was said to be more interested in transfers than in improving basic education.

Another minister who has been asked to put in his papers is Mukut Bihari Varma, the Minister for Cooperatives. The BJP organization found the minister incapable of bringing his Kurmi community into the party fold and his defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections put more red marks in his report card. His inability to mobilize the cooperative societies also worked against him.

Swati Singh, who was made minister to compensate for her husband Daya Shankar Singh who had been stripped of his party post after he made derogatory remarks against BSP President Mayawati in 2016, is another minister who failed to perform.

She stepped into controversy at the very beginning of her political career when she inaugurated a beer bar in Lucknow.

Chetan Chauhan, the Minister for Sports, was, despite being a renowned sportsman himself, one of the least performing ministers in the Yogi cabinet. He did not have a single achievement to boast off as a minister and his ministry remained dormant all these months.

The dropping of these ministers also makes it clear that Yogi Adityanath wants to contest the 2022 assembly elections on the strength of his government's performance and not just on the Modi magic.
