First encounter since abrogation of Art 370 in Baramullah

Srinagar, Aug 20 (IANS): In the first encounter in nearly two weeks, a fierce gun-battle broke out this evening between terrorists and security forces in Baramulla area of north Kashmir. This is also the first encounter after abrogation of Article 370 in J&K.

Sources say two to three terrorists are trapped inside as a joint operation by CRPF, Army and the Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police is launched. Baramullah is around 54 km from capital Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police took to twitter to say, "Exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Baramulla. (The) area under cordon. Details will follow."

Ever since Article 370 was abrogated on August 5, the Valley has been by and large peaceful apart from certain stray incidents of stone-pelting.

How can BJP claim that abrogation of Art 370 would stop infiltration and violence across the India-Pak border? They are two different matters. Art. 370 is an internal matter - between the citizens of Kashmir and the govt of India. Whereas the infiltration and violence across the border is external aggression - from Pakistani side. Kashmiris will suffer both. The abrogation of facilities under Art. 370 and nuisance of aggressor from Pak. I really pity them.

The BJP fuelling Kashmiri separatism for electoral gains. For the BJP's electoral constituents across India – most of whom only conceive of Kashmir through the constant consumption of propaganda – Modi has scored a huge political win.

There is no doubt that Modi has scored a huge political win.

His electoral constituents across India – most of whom only conceive of Kashmir through the constant consumption of propaganda – are impressed, jubilant, and visibly grateful. In the absence of any meaningful opposition, and with much of the media endorsing the party line, the BJP will be difficult to dethrone any time soon.

The government’s dual strategy of oppressing Kashmiris while developing the Valley will not eradicate separatism.

But the BJP is in the business of winning elections; it cares only that voters will reward it generously for doing what’s popular today. And so continues the conflict in Kashmir.

Innocent Kashmiris irrespective of religion will be victim of this abrogation of bill 370. Now India is not fighting Pakistan but BJP Vs Pakistan. Pakistan is fighting with its terrorists India with its security forces but RSS chaddies with sticks are hiding behind skirts. There won't be any development and prosperity in Kashmir but rivers of blood. Neither BJP/RSS nor Pakistani idealogy will be promoted.
