Pak bans Indian films in aftermath of Article 370 abrogation

Islamabad, Aug 8 (IANS): Pakistan has banned Indian films from being screened in cinemas across the nation, its government announced on Thursday.

Firdous Ashiq Awan, special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting, claimed this action was in retaliation to India's abrogation of the Constitution's Article 370, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and allowed it to have a separate constitution, a state flag and autonomy over the internal administration.

This is not the first time Pakistan has banned Indian films. Apart from refusing release of various Indian films regularly on grounds of censorship, Pakistan has been refusing release of Indian films -- particularly Bollywood products -- almost every time the political atmosphere between the two nations becomes tense.

In recent times, Pakistan has banned various Hindi films owing to different reasons. While "Raazi", "Aiyyari", and "Parmanu: The Story Of Pokhran" are among films to have been banned owing to what Pakistan felt was politically objectionable content, "Mulk" was banned because the country's censor board felt the film's portrayal of Muslims in India was not right. "Pad Man", "Veere Di Wedding", and "Pari" have been among other films refused a release in Pakistan even at normal times.

Talking to the media outside Parliament House on Thursday, Awan claimed her government was making various efforts to highlight the current Kashmir situation internationally. These include consultations at the United Nations by Pakistan's Representative Maleeha Lodhi, and contacting heads of governments of other countries, besides diplomatic engagements, reports dunyanews.tv.

Besides films, every other Indian cultural content has also been banned from Pakistan.

Paki govt will have to face a revolution if they ban Indian films. What is left for an ordinary Pakistani other than Indian movies to get some joy? They have high taxes, high handed officials, crazy mullahs who want everything covered up from head to toe and kneel 5 lengthy times a day and a bleak future.

That's exactly what current govt intend to do now and rest of their tenure till 2024. Create tense situation or engage with communal agenda and probably later part will be spent over Ram Mandir. You have the point. We need action rather than words situation like this which is not every one's cup of tea.

Hello Pakis, Ban all you can, it hardly matters to a great country like India. For the first time ever ,India has shown the guts and and a strong spine. For centuries we were robbed by Mughals, British, French, Protugese, Spanish , you name them . India is the only country that has survived a cultural and religious onslaught of Muslim aggressors and yet tolerated all cultures and religions. It will continue to do so.
The Article 370 was a gift of the people of this country whose culture was tolerance. However what the country got in return was treachery, communal intolerance, and entire Kashmir became a cancer spreading its tentacles to other parts of India. Now with this change brought about either constitutionally or unconstitutionally, the entire country will have one flag, one law and equality. It will not bleed the tax payers millions every month, spent to pamper a population that just does not work, and lives on a career of stone throwing. By banning trade, blocking the flight routes and essential imports you will have literally banned yourself. Great going !

I think we should take the issues seriously rather mocking the enemies especially when the matter teaches at the tables of international body. We Indians re emotional possessed in nature whether it be in sports or in politics. Taking opponents with overconfidence is not less than a stupidity.
