Kundapur: Cattle trafficking - Six people arrested at Sastan tollgate

Kundapur, Jul 13: Kota police, on the early morning of Friday, rescued cattle that was being transported in a truck from north Karnataka to slaughter house in Kasargod from the Sastan toll gate near here. Six people are arrested in this connection.

The arrested people are residents of Mangaluru and Kasargod. They are identified as Shivananda, Maruti Narayana Naika, Ganesh, Sainuddin, Hamid C H and Sameer. There were 13 male buffaloes and seven female buffaloes as per the information given by Kota SI Nityananda Gowda, who undertook this operation.

The police acting on a definite information, stopped the vehicle at 5 am on Friday at the Sastan toll gate. The driver of the truck tried to escape as soon as he saw the police jeep. However, the police obstructed the movement of the truck with their jeep and prevented the truck from escaping. There was a white coloured Tata Indica car also that was following the truck.

During interrogation, it has come to light that the cattle were being taken to be sold Abdulla, a native of Kasargod. The estimated cost of 13 male buffaloes and seven buffaloes is said to be around Rs 65,000 and 35,000 respectively.

The cattle was being transported in a heavy 12-wheeler truck, covered with tarpaulin on top as if Tiles and Marble stones are supplied so as not to attract any suspicion. The registration number plate of the truck was also that of Rajasthan. The white Tata Indica car was tailing the truck as guard. There were two occupants in the car. It is suspected that these cattle were stolen from somewhere.

A case in this regard is registered in Kota police station.

    From their appearance most of the buffaloes look healthy and well fed unlike so many previous incidents where in the cattle used to look malnourished. This makes sure that these buffaloes are just picked/ stolen and they were transporting without any proper documents to prove. Now even the cow protectors have joined the trade to enjoy the benefits of easy money.

    By names it is clear that this is law and order problem. This is not a problem of indiscreet secularism.
    Robbery and illegal act should be termed and acted as it is so. There is no point in making it a political issue or a religion problem.

    Cow vigilance merely an eyewash. Those who involve in Gourakshak dal not only consume beef and also involve in illegal trafficking.
