Mangaluru, Jul 10: The monsoon rains, which remained subdued since the last some weeks, have gained in momentum. Various parts of coastal Karnataka have been experiencing good rainfall since Tuesday July 9 morning. 

The city as well as Udupi remained enveloped in thick clouds since morning to evening, with heavy rains coupled with strong winds in between. Copious rainfall was reported from places like Puttur, Ullal, Mulky, Beltangady, Kinnigoli, Dharmasthala, Kundapur, Kollur and other places. 

Standing water on roads and blocked drains created problems in some places.

The monsoon which made a delayed entry into the coastal belt had remained weak. The coast has been facing a shortfall in rain and the shortage is expected to be made up in the coming days. 

Chief executive officer of Panambur Beach Development Corporation, Yatish Bykampady, and Malpe beach maintenance officer, Sudesh Shetty, said that beaches in both the districts have been witnessing turbulence at sea since long and that tourists have been kept away from entering the sea. 

The meteorological department has predicted good rainfall in coastal Karnataka for the next three days as an area of low pressure has been created over the Arabian Sea.
