Kolkata: 14-year-old schoolgirl writes death note as she suffocates herself

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolkata (MS)

Kolkata, Jun 23: Honouring the last wishes of a 14-year-old schoolgirl, the relatives, family and friends gave her an emotional farewell at the Baruipur crematorium near here. Krittika Paul had mentioned in the death note before and during the process of suffocation in a bid to kill herself "Give me a nice funeral. A NAICE one,"

One of her relatives said, "We have fond memories of Krittika. We cannot believe that she is no more. We had high hopes that she will do well in life as she was intelligent as well as compassionate."

According to a police officer, Krittika had killed herself in a gruesome manner. "She had wrapped a polythene bag around her face and tucked its edges inside her shirt in order to suffocate herself. There were multiple slash injuries on her wrist but they were not life threatening," said the police officer.

The most shocking find was the chilling, three-page death note written by Krittika, in which she has described minute by minute details as she suffocated herself to death. The hand writing on the death note is shaky and unsteady as the letter progresses, giving the indication that she was bleeding and suffocating. Police are of the opinion that the last page of the three page suicide note was written in the bathroom where she killed herself.

In the first two pages of the suicide note written in exemplary English without a single cut or overwriting, Krittika says that she has not slept more many days and would sleep finally. It is also mentioned that she had nurtured the wish to die from the first standard.

Police are also in confusion as to what caused this young girl to kill herself in such a gruesome manner. They took the statements of all the teachers of the school where Krittika studied. Police said that her laptop and mobile phone might carry more pieces of evidence as to the reason behind the suicide. They will also speak to her parents.

"Krittika used to read a lot of books and spent hardly any time on the internet. However, when one sees the manner in which she has ended her life, there is a feeling that she might have got the clue from one of the several crime web series," opines a baffled police officer.

Krittika has firmly written in her death note that no one is responsible for her death but herself. She says, "My mind is messy. What I write is not chronological. I hold myself and only myself responsible. I do not want police to bombard random people with random questions. Anyway, I was long battling this thought. Some people had the feeling that I cannot kill myself."

It is learnt that the school, where Krittika studied had organized a felicitation ceremony for the class toppers on Friday and all those who were felicitated, including class ten topper, Krittika were in a jovial mood after the ceremony.

Very sad for the young promising life to have get cut short like. My deepest condolences to the parents and family. This is a clear case of what major depressive disorder looks like. People who habit experience it how horrible it is to be alive. People are trying to judge the attitude of the parents. No parent wilfully want their child to experience such a horrific end. The problem is when teenagers are so young to fully comprehend their mental condition and feel shame to discuss their self destructive thoughts with anyone. The solution lies in talking openly about mental disorder s and suicide so that nobody feels shame to talk about their suicidal feelings at least to their parents so that some medical intervention could be given to such patients before it is too long

In Japan and South Korea the students who commit suicide are usually bright students, (usually class toppers) who can't bear the societal pressure if they get a lower rank...same case here. The parents might have put undue pressure on her to continue coming first in class and she might have buckled under immense pressure...RIP Krittika

Parents should not put pressure on the children to secure high marks. Children have a life to enjoy and live them free.

Unlike severe cases which need professional psychological assistance, best way to overcome negative thoughts is to say or Think, I Love Them, by doing this you are surrendering them to God, because God is LOVE. 1 John 4:8; and may be immediately or over the time you are able to overcome them with the help of God.

If you unable to get sleep then try relaxing your mind and then five senses one by one then body parts from head to toe then repeat same process till you get sleep.

Unlike west if we don't have routine check up to our kids by psychologist, social worker, Physical therapist ,occupational therapist, physicians , these incidents continues to happen in our schools . Our education system should be modified , Teachers or parent alone cant help a child to grow mentally or physically,

Very sad indeed. RIP, Krittika. I don't understand why she took such a harsh way to end her life. She was young and intelligent and suicide was not the solution unless she had something else bothering her. Condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.

My deepest Condolences and prayer for the peace of thesoul
Here important point to note is she was studying too much stood first in class But was not getting sleep properly that means she was too much stressed
This sleeplessness made her take drastic step of getting permanent sleep
My sincere advise to Parents if your children are not getting good sleepfor several days Consult a Psychiatrist preferably from a Govt tertiary level Medical college .Most of the cases there is simple chemical imbalance that can be corrected

She had mentioned that she did not sleep many days and by suicide she would sleep finally. Clearly, it is depression. Everyone’s different and it's often a combination of factors that can contribute to developing depression. The most important thing is to recognise the signs and symptoms and seek support. How parents did not recognise it, we don.t know. Also, present times, parents are so busy in their careers, they just think, the wealth they create will keep the children happy. But as Jossey said everyone can be a father, but only the lucky one's become daddy. RIP to Krittika.

She had multiple slash injuries on her wrists.

For many, this is the first visible sign of succumbing to the effects of depression.

It is a pity no one noticed the slashes on time. These may have happened over time.
