Modi biopic: EC submits sealed report to SC

New Delhi, Apr 22 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Monday received in a sealed envelope the Election Commission's report on "PM Narendra Modi", a biopic,

after the movie's producers cried foul that the poll panel barred the film's release without even watching it.

The movie on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's journey right from his childhood to him becoming the Prime Minister, has been waiting for clearance to be released after the EC issued an order barring the screening of political films during the Lok Sabha elections.

The top court on Monday directed that the EC report should be served to the petitioner -- the film producers.

The apex court had last week directed the EC to watch the film and submit the report.

The filmmakers had moved the apex court challenging the EC's order delaying its release.

There were the core universal values of democracy. They included representation, transparency, and accountability. The presence and observance of such principles provide legitimacy for the political system.

The new trend started by India's highest Court Supreme Court of India has become new norms of the system.

After Supreme Court passed justices on 'Rafale Jet' for PM Modi government on 'Sealed Envelope', now it seems Election Commission of India turn.

The Election Commission (EC) has come under intense scrutiny over the last few weeks for its inability to take swift action against those violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). It took a rap on its knuckles by the Supreme Court for the EC to crack the whip. For some time now, the role of the Election Commission has come under the scanner. There is a debate on its perceived failure to check violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
It raises the question of whether the EC has no teeth or is the EC being timid?
Now with the sealed envelope 'commission' very much suits to its full name.

Is Supreme Court of India is once again going deliver 'Clean chit' for Modi biopic and 'Namo TV' like Rafale on incomplete evidence?
