Udupi: After being jailed in Kuwait Shankar Poojary demands compensation from Mubarak

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Feb 16: Shankar Poojary from Basrur, who was jailed in Kuwait for carrying banned drug in May 2018, has demanded compensation from Mubarak, the person who made him carry the banned tablets which were to be delivered to his mother-in-law Tasleema.

Addressing a press meet at Brahmagiri, here on Saturday, February 17, Poojary who was working in Kuwait Agricultural and Food Products Company, said that he has lost his job and for seven month he was in jail for carrying banned drug.

“Mubarak is the reason I lost my job and suffered in jail and he has to pay me seven months’ salary as compensation,” said Shankar Poojary.

Poojary thanked Udupi Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) president Ansar Ahmed, who showed special interest in releasing him from Kuwait jail. District administration had paid special attention for his release. Pushparaj, businessman of Mumbai, Tulu Koota Association, and Billava Association had worked for Poojary’s release. As result of their collective effort, Kuwait court released him on January 15. He landed in Mumbai from Kuwait and later took a train to his native. He reached Basrur railway station on January 21.

“Tasleema did not try to meet me even once in Kuwait. If she had come to me with proper proof, they would have released me early. I was behind the bars for seven months and without salary. I have two children and they are pursuing their education. After I returned, Mubarak did not meet me at least once for the sake of courtesy,” alleged Poojary.

“My wife Jyothi suffered a lot while trying to meet expenses without any source of income. Police need to take some action against Mubarak,” he demanded.

“I served for five years in my company. If I was given VRS, I would have got my benefits. The company I worked for fired me because of this episode. I do not have any other option for livelihood. Mubarak must pay me seven months of my salary. I have borrowed loans from bank. I am in great difficulty,” he said.

“Around Rs 6 lacs was spent to obtain my release with the help of various organisations. Now I am looking forward to start my life again and look after my family,” he said.

Jyothi, wife of Shankar, said, “It was very disappointing as no government or any union minister, external affairs minister helped to obtain release for my husband. They turned a deaf ear towards our grief. I approached KRV and they helped a lot. The seven months was the most difficult time of my life.”

Ansar Ahmed, president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike was present.

Unfortunately in the Gulf ( or perhaps everywhere), ignorance of the law is not a cause for justification. Mr Shanka Poojary has learnt it the hard way.

    @Prabhu

Do you think all people wash toilets of Arabs in Gulf countries...?

You should learn to appreciate the goodwill gesture of a fellow citizen first.

It is not your discretion whether Shankar should choose to work in India or elsewhere.

Do not forget, NRIs have remitted USD.80 Billion in 2017-2018.

    Jai Hind!!!

    Prabhu Sir,
No job is of low stature.
There is a multimillionaire owner of a restaurant chain India, though nearing his 70s, spends one month in Mecca, doing cleaning jobs like sweeping the streets, cleaning toilets etc.

@Prabhu Karkala, your mentality will never change.someone is come forward to help this poor fellow and you are beating your own drums.OK,when you want him to stay here and lookafter his parents, give him a job that he can repay is loan and live a normal life ,childrens educations etc.Even when one cleans toilets ,it is not ashaming so long one does it with sincere .It is a job like any other. It depends on other how one betrachtet.Second now so many people are commenting against him.Of course he had taken it without a second thought that time.It cant be changed now.he is paying for his sincerityand helping hand.Even mMubarak didnt even show his face after his return to say sorry. Ungrateful humans. He should get compansation.

    Shankar Poojary,
Why should Mubarak pay compensation for your foolishness and your mistake? You should have checked what you are carrying to a gulf country. When gullible fools are around, Mubaraks will make use of them.

    People,

Indian Government should conduct a day's class for all new Indians visiting abroad to educate them what to do and what not to do while in foreign Countries....this should be a pre-requisite for obtaining Indian Passport...

First lesson of this class, obey all the laws of the country , where you reside....Second rule, don't take others parcels and drugs....

May be our Udupi Vidhwaan can take a lead in this,,,,and cut the ribbon...rather than cutting silly ribbons everywhere else...

    ...Tak...Takk...

Poojary , instead of trying to get compensation / money from Mubarak who didn’t care about a friends life, it’s better you thank God for getting you out of Kuwait jail which would have been impossible without the intervention of KRV.
God will take Mubarak to task !
Poojary start a new life with your family and enjoy your freedom by thanking God everyday!
