Vijay Mallya perplexed at banks reluctance to accept his money

New Delhi, Feb 14: "I had made an offer before Karnataka high court to settle my liabilities. I also had offered assets worth Rs 1 4,000 crore. Still the banks are not ready to accept money I have offered to pay. I am confounded why Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has not chosen to ask the banks to accept the money I have offered to pay them," remarked business tycoon, Vijay Mallya.

He was referring to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi's last address in the parliament in which he made a passing reference to a man who ran away with public funds amounting to Rs 9,000 crore. Mallya, acknowledging Modi's oratory skill, remarked that depending on the inference drawn by the media he has reasons to believe that Modi referred to him in the said address.

It may be recalled that provisions of Fugitive Economic Offenders Act passed recently were invoked against Vijay Mallya, and on January 2, he was declared a fugitive offender under the act.

Mallya wondered why Modi failed to ask the banks to accept the money he had offered towards clearance of borrowings made by Kinfgisher Airlines. He said that by doing so, Modi could have claimed credit for recovering the money lent to Kingfisher.

In tweets he made in succession, Mallya claimed that he had made an offer before Karnataka high court to settle his loans. He said he had also offered assets worth Rs 1 4,000 crore to the court.
