‘Konkan Dabazo’ Konkani extravaganza enthralls audience in Dubai

Dubai, Feb 12: Spectacular musical extravaganza 'Konkani Dabazo-2019' organised by Jebel Ali Assisi Konkani Community (JAKC), concluded on a grand note at parish hall, St Francis of Assisi Church, Jebel Ali on February 7.

'Konkani Dabazo-2019', a fun-filled Konkani entertainment programme, consisted of Konkani songs, skits, dances and live music presented by the local talent of JAKC. It is also a platform for the Konkani speaking community to exhibit their talents.

The programme kicked off with the introduction by compere Caroline Crystal Lobo followed by a prayer dance by children of JAKC.

 



JAKC president Roydon Roche welcomed the gathering and spoke about the various activities of JAKC. “The key objective of JAKC is the promotion of Konkani language and culture,” Roydon said. He thanked the audience for gathering in large numbers

Fr Maxim Cardoza, assistant parish priest and spiritual director of JAKC felicitated the dignitaries, sponsors and co-sponsors by presenting the flower bouquet followed by lighting of the traditional lamp.

Fr Reinhold Sahner, parish priest, addressed the gathering and highlighted the various contributions by JAKC. “I am delighted to be a part of this community”, he said. He blessed the event and wished success.

Fr Maxim in his message mentioned about ‘promoting and celebrating the rich heritage of Konkani language and culture’. He stressed upon safeguarding it for our future generation. He wished success for the event.

Michelle Passanha, chairperson of the parish council, was present on the dais.

JAKC also honoured and felicitated the GVOM (Gulf Voice of Mangalore) winner Sabitha Mathias and runner up Aenson Mathias.

The cultural programme began with the theme song ‘Dabazo’ sung by JAKC members which laid a perfect foundation for the event. Well-known compere Caroline Crystal Lobo from JAKC kept the show going with her unique style of compering and sense of humour.

The music for the evening was arranged and coordinated by Joyson D’Souza, swayed the audience to the melodious music by playing popular Konkani songs with the band lineup consisting of renowned musician Patrick Pereira on the lead guitar, Jossi Sequeira and Leanne Fernandes on the rhythm guitar, Karen D’souza on the saxophone, Nathan Gomes and Joyson D’souza on the keyboards, Chris Menezes on bass guitar, Fred Roshan, Mithesh and Alwyn Misquith on drums. The band was accompanied on the vocals by Sabitha Mathias and Aenson Mathias of GVOM fame along with Nisha Sequeira from JAKC.

Young budding talent Karen D’souza rendered an instrumental classic on saxophone accompanied by the musicians of the live band.

Variety of dance performances by JAKC artistes (adults and children) added colour and glamour to the event. Some of the dance performances like ‘Molbavoilyachandra’ and ‘Whistle maar’ by adults; ‘Undramujha mama’ and ‘Yo re pavsa’ by children were well appreciated by the audience with huge round of applause.

Prashant D’souza from JAKC core committee rendered the vote of thanks.

One of the highlight of this year’s event was a short Konkani Comedy Play with a social message – ‘Uprantchch Kalchem’ enacted by well-known actors of JAKC along with guest artists which included Ritesh Pinto, Shirva as ‘Lancy’; Reshma D’souza, Vamanjoor as ‘Lizzy’; David Lobo, Byndoor as ‘Duje’; Rose Marie Chacko, Cascia as ‘Gracy Bai’; Vijay Dhiraj, Pamboor as ‘Bullet Benna’; Jonita Menezes, Pernal as ‘Mary Bai’; Jason Miranda, Boliye as ‘Cannie’; Paul D’souza, Paladka as ‘Pacchu’ and Steven Pinto, Loretto as ‘Jerry’. The play was written by Nellu Permannur; directed by Vernon D’souza, Mangaluru; background score by Franklin Rodrigues, Siddakatte; stage art by Diany D’souza, Pamboor; make-up by Kishore Gatti; poster design, teaser and trailer by Prem Cascia and Jason Miranda, Boliye; Recording by Joynish Studio, Dubai.

JAKC felicitated the musicians of live band and all the team members of Konkani comedy drama ‘Uprantchch Kollchem’.

As the event was nearing the end, JAKC members along with the live band, set the tempo with the hugely popular ‘Non-stop Baila’ to the much delight of the crowd and there was no looking back as the mood just got better and better asking for more. The evening concluded with boisterous young and old dancing to their heart's content with beautiful memories to cherish for long.

‘Broadway Event Management’ provided the sounds and lighting for the event. Michael D’souza (Ivory Grand Hotel) was the main sponsor of the event while ‘Reichhold Company’ and Joel Crasta (Broadway Sounds) were co-sponsors.

The event came to an end with the family dinner. JAKC thanked everyone involved in making this event a grand success.
