Mangaluru: Congress searching for winning LS candidates - opinions of leaders being collected

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 10: Congress party has been frantically searching for winning Congress candidates for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, and Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituencies where the electorate appears to be tilted against it, going by the results of previous assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Towards this end, All India Congress Committee observers and party leaders collected opinions from presidents of various units of the party at Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee office here on Saturday February 9.

Karnataka Congress in-charge secretaries, P C Vishnunath, Manikyam Thakur and Madhu Yakshi Gowda, had been made observers of the Congress for this purpose.

A total of 92 persons gave their opinions about choosing the party candidates. Every one of them was individually interviewed, and their opinions were recorded. Individual rooms had access only to the observers and no one else.

In the meantime, as per information, more than ten persons have applied to the party, showing interest to become party candidates for the Lok Sabha election. MLC, Ivan D'Souza, former ministers, B Ramanath Rai and Vinay Kumar Sorake, Rajya Sabha member, B K Hariprasad, district youth Congress president, Mithun Rai, former Reserve Bank of India director, Naveen Bhandary, party leader from Sullia taluk, Dhananjay Adpangaya, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Mamata Gatty, are said to be among the aspirants.

Udupi constituency

From Udupi constituency, former minsters Pramod Madhwarj and Vinay Kumar Sorake have evinced interest to become party candidates. Names of former vice president of NRI Karnataka Forum, Arathi Krishna, and Chikkamagaluru district Congress president, Dr Vihay Kumar, are also being coined.

I don't what the Congress leaders are thinking about the winning candidate. Why they are hesitating to select the young leaders. Being Nalin Kumar Kateel one of the strong support from RSS men we need a best candidate from Congress. Congress party have to give a chance to a new face. I propose Mithun Rai though I don't know about much him. He can bring a positive vibe which helps better to win the LP poll. Think it. Veteran leaders are the best one. We need a new face too. It is the need of the time and read the signs of the time

If Congress high command fields totally a new face, who is young, energetic, charming, educated and who has passion towards Dakshina Kannada culture and languages, he will definitely uproot BJP regime; irrespective of caste equation. It is very evident that even the BJP folks are aware of this.
But if INC fields any one of the above 10 aspirants, it will be useless ! including J R Lobo, Mithun Rai etc etc.

The Congress party must understand that winners will be decided by the voters, not by the candidate.
In the undivided district of Canara Congress has a lack of enthusiasm and groundwork comparing to the BJP volunteering the RSS workers. In fighting within the party, caste equation and fail to curb the communal violence in the last two decades are one of the other factors.
No party will give a candidate who is consecutively lost in elections. But Congress has full faith in a veteran leader who is in the party speaks like BJP man is more inclined to the Sangh ideology.
If Congress wants to bounce back then it must raise the issue of RTI activist murder by NAMO Naresh. This will impact BJP at the national level under which party is selling merchandise and getting funds for the campaign.
Above all the Congress President should make some tough decision this time and decide candidate who is acceptable for Mangaloreans disregarding the caste equation.
The BJP has already kicked up the campaign and Congress seems to be far behind accepting the defeat before contesting.

Kavita sanil, being a young lady potential 63candidate and having clean image with political experience may pose serious threat to B J P and may be a winning candidate if everyone from the congress work together for her victory.

My sincere advice to Congis who will get tickets please don't spend your all money in the election campaigns as there is no chance of winning especially in DK. Whatever money/property u have with you please keep for future as this party will never come in power again.
