Unable to bear social boycott, young girl commits suicide

Daijiworld Media Network – Haveri (EP)

Haveri, Feb 9: A young girl committed suicide after her family was boycotted by her community following disputes over property.

The deceased has been identified as Asha Gollara (18), a resident of Gollara Bidara, Hirur in Hanagal. She hanged herself when she was alone at home on Friday.

Background of the incident:

There is a temple beside the house of Puttappa Gollara, father of Asha. A few leaders of the community had asked Puttappa to give up his land for the temple but he refused to their demands.

“As we refused to give the land, community men boycotted four families including us. As our daughter Asha could not bear it, she has committed suicide,” Asha’s parents told media.

Community people had asked Asha not to get in the bus in which community people were travelling. “We will have to pay a fine of Rs five thousand if we speak to you,” they had reportedly said.

“Asha had gone to a programme to the house of her friend. Some people had pushed her out from there then. Asha who was embarrassed by such incidents committed suicide,” alleged her mother.

Parents of deceased Asha have lodged a complaint in Hanagal police station. Police who visited the spot have transported Asha’s dead body to Hanagal hospital for postmortem. Police have registered a case and started investigations.

Common friends do not kill children in the name of religion & God. Enough is enough.

God does not need your money, land or offerings, he needs only your good heart.

He is the one who gives you land, water, air and even money to survive.

When we all die you will see our beautiful sister Asha enjoying in heaven but you all will still be fighting in HELL to build a temple to god.
