Shivamogga: Monkey fever scare spreads - two more lives lost

Shivamogga, Jan 15: Two more persons died on account of monkey fever, also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease. Bheemeraj (49) from Biligaru villalge in Sagar taluk in the district passed away on Sunday, January 13. His end came at Manipal hospital on Sunday night.

Savita (45), a resident of Vatemakki within Aralagodu village lost her battle for life on Monday January 14 evening. With this, the fear of the disease, which is currently confined to Sagar and adjoining Thirthahalli taluks, spreading to other taluks has made the people fearful.

A monkey had died at Sanklipura in Bhadravati taluk. One more was found to have died in the village on Monday.

Carcasses of monkeys have also been found in Siddapur in Uttara Kannada district as well as Byndoor, Kundapur and Karkala taluks of Udupi district. At the same time, test reports on samples extracted from the bodies of monkeys found recently in Kundapur taluk have not yet been received.

    Why our health Ministry is not acting or taking all the precautions? They have to act on a war footing, advising criticizes and also other measures to stop spreading the decease among people or animals. Isn't there anti-dot or a vaccine as a precautionary measure?
