Setback for Modi govt: Supreme Court reinstates Alok Verma as CBI director

New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated Alok Kumar Verma as CBI Director and set aside the Centre's decision divesting him of his powers and sending him on leave.

The top court, however, restrained Verma from taking any major policy decision till the Central Vigilance Commission inquiry is over.

The apex court also said that any further decision against Verma would be taken by the high-powered committee which selects and appoints CBI Director.

The judgement was pronounced by a bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph.

Verma's two-year tenure as CBI Director ends on January 31.

More details awaited.

All India's top Governing/Vigilance Departments, EC, ED, RBI, RAW, etc etc, including the Police Dept of the Country need to become independent without any political interference by ruling or opposition, whatever. Then only Indians will have a better questioning power, working efficiency to march towards progress.

    Hail Democracy Hail Supreme Court.
Glad I am a citizen of Democratic India. Where common people power is mightier than dictators. Thanks to Supreme court, In numerous cases you have saved the integrity and hope of people of India in the recent past.

Supreme court should question both Congress and BJP in Rafael deal as well. I know from a French, he was shocked when India planned to buy these jets during Congress time. Even France is not using them for the high maintenance cost then why India is buying. After all whose money it is.

    |Very correct move by Supreme Court. As far as SC is on the correct path, none can cheat indian democracy, constitution and Indians. BJP had nominated the judge to get rule in its favor. but, truth always prevails. Jai ho Indian SC and Democracy. Every Indian wants to know the truth of Rafael Deal and we want to know how many billions are looted and who are the real culprits. Everyone found guilty should be jailed for life in Andaman prison.

Shaking too fast and falling apart faster than we thought. How any sand castle can last longer? The Modi empire built on fake economic promises but with the ulterior motive to transform India as a nation of high caste rule of the olden days. How ruthless it was, the fund blocking of thousands of NGOs which were feeding-clothing and educating the discarded people of the society?????? GOD will not let the Modi Government go without severe punishment and humiliation before the whole world.

There was a very good debate yesterday on NDTV by some experts conveing their opinion on the matter of HAL financial credit crunch. It seems government is still holding back Rs.20,000 crore out standing dues by IAF.
Now any one would be convinced how and why the Rafale jet fighter manufacture deal was not awarded to HAL citing their bad fin. Situation. HAL is borrowing to pay staff salaries !
Rafale contract being awarded to Anil Ambani on above grounds looks justfied.

So the comment that the court is rigged is not there now?
Atleast the integrity of court is settled now.
or will it be questioned again when the verdict goes against your views?
Also why havent the court given any powers to him?
Just reinstating him back without powers is not of great use.

All the those who have involved in Rafale secret deal and trying to cover-up must be proved that they are wrong . CBI's duty to hit the last in BJP coffin. If some one work for the country they should be loayal to the country too and not by manupulating. For sins there is no eye wash only maximum punishment.
