Kaup, Dec 12: A person driving his scooter lost his balance, as a result of which his vehicle fell to the road. The rider's head bumped against the road divider and he breathed his last. This tragic incident happened at Katpadi near here on the night of Monday, December 10.

The victim of this accident was Ganesh Shetty (39), son of the late Muddu Shetty and Jalaja Shetty from Manipur near Katpadi. Locals have blamed unscientific road hump for this accident.

Ganesh was an electrician by profession. He had visited Koteshwar near Kundapur on some work on Monday. He was returning home in his scooter via Udupi and Katpadi when the accident happened at 11 pm. Road hump has been newly erected at the spot where vehicles enter service road at Katpadi from highway. When negotiating the hump, the scooter went off balance and Shetty slipped and fell on the divider, reports said. He suffered serious injuries to his head, face, and chest.

Although arrangements were made to take him to the hospital, he breathed his last on the way. He was the only earning member of his family and was supporting widowed mother, unmarried sister, wife and two small children. His death has cast a pall of gloom on the family members.
