Mangaluru Nov 18: Rachana, Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry conferred its prestigious Rachana Awards to five eminent personalities in a grand ceremony here at Milagres Jubilee Hall on Saturday, November 17.

Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha presided over the function.

The awardees were Faye D’Souza (Rachana Professional of the year), Ronald Castelino (Rachana Entrepreneur of the year), Lawrence Pinto (Rachana Agriculturist of the year), Aloysius Richard Lobo (Rachana NRI of the year) and Sr Maria Jyothi A C (Rachana Woman of the year).

Addressing the gathering, bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said, "Rachana is a prestigious award in our community as it recognises achievers in the society. In order to achieve something, never quit, believe in yourselves, work hard and stay focused to attain your goal. I congratulate all the award winners.”

Chief post master general, Karnataka Circle, Dr Charles Lobo IPS said, "Post office is a place where you get everything. It is like a supermarket. Business nature has changed. This is the age of e-commerce where we get lot of parcels and that is hard to manage. On September 1, India Post Payment Bank was introduced. By the end of December, we will be have 1.55 lac branches which will be the biggest bank in India with rural network.

"I feel proud to get associated with my work and utilise the opportunity to the foremost level. During my work, I have released several covers pertaining to our community and have promoted our culture and tradition through covers,” said Dr Charles Lobo.

After receiving the award agriculturist Lawrence Pinto said, "I thank Rachana for encouraging and awarding me with this prestigious award.”

Executive editor Mirror Now Faye D’Souza said, "We journalists have had a tough time in the last couple of years. In the last two years, high number of journalists have been attacked in the history ever. Social media has been a danger for ordinary journalists as we are insulted saying biased and sell-outs. Our community is fortunate enough that we have access to great institution, information, justice and many such fields. I thank Rachana for giving me this award.”

Entrepreneur Ronald Castelino said, "I am very delighted to receive this award. I was part of Rachana since its inception. It is really good to recognise achievers in the society. Rachana has awarded most deserving personalities who turn out to be role model to the youngsters.”

Founder St Agnes Special School Sr Maria Jyothi A C said, "To attain a goal, we need support from others. I have been supported through out by my superiors, parents and well-wishers. One should open heart to empower the differently abled, create friendly environment and provide jobs for their abilities.”

President of Rachana Stany Alvares welcomed the gathering, secretary of Rachana Anil Vaz rendered the vote of thanks and Allwyn D’Sa compered the programme.

Convenor of Rachana awards John B Monteiro was also present.
