Bantwal: Fights erupt during Indira canteen compound construction

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (EP)

Bantwal, Nov 14: Municipal council member Govinda Prabhu has strongly opposed construction of Indira Canteen compound wall in B C Road on November 14.

Govinda Prabhu alleged that land reserved for highway is acquired for the purpose. Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil had visited and inspected the spot on November 13. The contractor had come with police protection on Wednesday morning and started construction of the compound wall. As Govinda Prabhu tried to obstruct their work, police sent him out.

This led to heated arguments between the contractor and Govinda Prabhu . A large number of people gathered due to the incident.

MLA Rajesh Nayak who tried to visit the spot was prevented by the police. The MLA speaking to news reporters clarified that illegal construction will not be allowed at any cost.

Some thing strange here. Compound wall, which is very much needed. Compound wall width is usually 8 to 9 inches which gives protection to the next compound too. How come this wall, is called encroachment wall. Here this is nothing but jealousy; as the name is Indira canteen and this canteen is already very popular amongst the poor, hungry people.

Recently, I had eaten afternoon lunch at Indira canteen, which is located next to MUDA office, Mangalore and had written a letter of appreciation to the concerned department. Food is vegetarian and quite good quality.

Its not about 8 or 9 inches width ,its about the length of the wall which is encroaching.govt(i.e planning authority) sanctioning the encroachment allowing the construction of comp wall is against its own bylaws.in simple govt making the bylaws and breaking the same rule.the fight is against that and not with canteen which provides us the food
