Mangaluru: Demeaning posts on social sites, doctors stage black badge protest

Mangaluru, Nov 11: The doctors in the city supported the protest organized by the Obstetrician and Gynaecologists of Puttur against the spread of vengeance and communally sensitive posts on social sites on them by some individuals.

Doctors belonging to several medical associations including the district unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) wore black badges as a mark of protest and carried on their duties on Saturday, November 10.

One of the protesting doctors said, "Sometime ago a lady died in a hospital in Puttur. There is an attempt to accuse the concerned doctors in the case. The deceased lady died due to excessive bleeding and not due to the negligence of the doctors. However, messages are being spread on WhatsApp by certain individuals saying that the ladies belonging to a certain religion are neglected and killed. So the doctors have shown their unhappiness over these fictitious allegations by wearing the black badge."

Dr K R Kamath, president of IMA, said, "The doctors have tried their level best to save the life of the deceased lady. However, she did not respond to the treatment and died. Even her father has agreed to this. However, few people are spreading false message citing this incident. The doctors will have difficulty in carrying out their duties because of allegations like this."

Dr Sachidananda Rai, president deputed by IMA, Dr Yousuf Kumble, president of private hospitals, Dr Vatsala Kamath, president of the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and Dr Divakar Rao, president of Association of Medical Consultants supported the protest.

    I am glad the days of though art great are behind these arrogant medical professionals, finally the consumers of health care in India are awakening. Try your black badges in the Western world and you will lose your license. There is due process for every thing, medical professionals are not beyond scrutiny and public opinion.

    Every maternal death will be investigated by the appropriate District health authority. Till then put your non sensical, irrational judgement on arrogant doctors on hold. Do you support the communal angle given to the death by patients? According to you doctors have no right to a peaceful protest? should they meekly accept atrocities by patient pary even when they are accused of being negligent to a particular community? Do you have a brain in your skull or just dung?

    Human Body and its reaction to intervention is different in different individuals, Same drug may act differently in given 2 individuals (Its not automobile engine) to conclude doctor negligence is very difficult, Patient may come with headache may be having tumor in brain or simple stress induced.. How doctor at puttur (to give example of small city) manages.? If he does scan he is blamed for commercialization, If he doesnt and patient dies in few days he is blamed for negligence. Doctors most of the time balance and act. People hav to understand it. OR else every sickness People have to go specialty hospitals. How many can afford.?

    There is a need for probe for these incidents.. seems there are more than 15 deaths in recent years. Its not just from one religion . .. As professional doctors instead of protesting they should requested for an official enquiry for all deaths happened in recent years so that all these can be tackled professionally.

    Everyday many people die that is part of life. all unnatural deaths are probed by police. all medicolegal cases are investigated by DC and medical council .

    Every Maternal death is investigated at every districts first at District health officers office and later at DC office. But causes of deaths amounts same ... Lack of blood, late arrival to hospital , lack of facility to revive the patients, doctor was there etc , etc. There are preventable causes and some non -preventable causes , Preventable causes happening again and again (like lack of blood) is not acceptable .

    Enough blood should be made available to all maternity hospitals. At this 21 st century a lady dying of lack of blood is not just acceptable . Policy on blood bank (collection and storage )needs to be revised

    There was a time, doctors, teachers, religious leaders were given utmost respect because of their noble character. Today, most of the doctors have changed themselves as commercial persons and some act like brokers to big hospitals too. , Sorry to say this. I was supposed to be the victim but due to my application of mind, I was saved.

    Request doctors, to stick to the main ethics of honesty, give right advise to the patients, boost their morale rather do not make them scary and try to achieve your selfish monetary gains.

    Yes, I do agree with your comment. Some prefer to suffer rather than going to the doctors and spend money when they come to know that their sickness will not cure.
