I have experienced good services from OLA taxis, within Mangalore city limits, as I frequently make use of their services. Hastle free and always available within Mangalore city limits, at reasonable rates. Most of them are polite as they are accountable.

Apart from my home town airport at Mangaluru, connecting to the cities from almost all airports in the country has become a hassle free affair. Even during my recent visit to Kolkata Airport, the airport authorities there have been able to get rid of the high-handedness of the Yellow Taxi Ambassador Drivers' there. Both Ola & Uber are now allowed at the airport. Delhi & Bengaluru airports enjoy the maximum options. But at my own home town Mangaluru, the goons who prefer to "Work to Loot" have been given the monopoly whether it is the airport terminal or railway station. Nearly a year back, even the contractual toll staff at the airport were looters and a nuisance lot. This is all because of the corrupt practices and local sympathy these goons (the gang of taxi drivers at the airport) continue to enjoy. But it is high time that we get rid of such goons and force them out of their dirty business. Only then we can take pride of our local airport rather than be a spectator to such corrupt activities in a so called highly educated city where we are too civilised to tolerate such acts and be inflamed by unwanted issues.

As per my knowledge yesterday ola drivers intentionally camw to do an issue with among 50 deivers. Let airport director show proof that how much they are collecting tender amounts from ola or uber? Is it fare to charge airport union drivers almost to 8laks monthly and giving free parks to ola? Let airport authority stop looting from poor airport union drivers and give free park. Even they will charge cheaper rate. However they are giving 24*7 better service.

Let airport authority of india reduce the amount which they charge for the airport union drivers. They pay almost 8lakhs as the tender amount for airport authority. Then even they will take passengers, for cheap rates. Its not fare airport authority looting huge amount from poor taxi drivers and making easy way for other companies.

People find fault with me when I blame our culture of doing things.
    1. Accountability: the airport authority has to take the incidence as it's failure and come out with a press conference with measures taken.

    2. Airport parking lots have CCTV. Those indulged in violence need to be booked as well as barred entry.

    3. All airports and especially those deemed international have shuttle service to the nearest nodal bus or public transport. Start the service from airport to down the hill.
People with minimum luggage either will take a.bus from there or an auto.
Having said this , unbecoming negative culture is seen in other walks of life too.
    1. Just outside the city limits people have utter disregard for the environment. You can see plastic thrash in various stages of degradation( even soil and water has plastic dust) on the road side.
    2. Volunteers clean the city yet corporators of MCC want the credit. Blame those who recently gave a poor performance report for MCC smart city

In Bengaluru, it's easy to book both OLA & Uber, auto, sedan & SUV. In Mangaluru, there are not many options available. In Bengaluru, OLA comes within a few minutes, but in Mangaluru, we need to wait & wait & then taken for a ride; I mean apart from the actual ride, Non-OLA's happily & without any hesitation demand exorbitant rates.

Mangalorian, Mangalore I agree with you. Mangalore is one of the costliest place in india. I have stayed in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and now settled in Bangalore. In those cities you will get most of the things for higher price and lessor price too. You have the options to manage your expenses for less price here and totally depend on us. Also when it comes to cleanliness also now mangalore is not clean like before. Overall yes better in cleanliness. Here the main road and cross road almost looks same. In the above mentioned cities i have noticed that main roads are very much clean, but at the same time interior roads are too dirty. Overall our mangalore city is not much developing among two tier cities. Let it be in infrastructure or employment opportunities.

In Bengaluru, city outskirts are clean; like close to airport, Electronics city, Jayanagara etc., Areas close to Koramagala are not so clean with owner's not cleaning after their pet's. In some areas of the city, there are big buildings & people can be seen sleeping on the pavement outside the compound wall, people using curb as restroom & dirty pavement. I would suggest people buy property in the outskirts of the city.

Govt should ban the airport taxi drivers association immediately. WE are in a democratic country. Its not banana republic. Mangalore airport taxi drivers are looting the passangers. Auto rickshaw drivers are looting the passaners at Railway stations. Its a shame to Mangalore people. They are not at all intelligent they are dumb and deaf. Home Minister, RTO should take immediate action against the taxi association.Or Someone shoud file a PIL in the honourable court. OLa and Uber cabs have every right to travel to and fro from the Mangalore airport. Muneer Katipalla, Sunil Bajal and other leaders should come forward and fight for justice. Imagine a Foreign Investor, has heard so much about Mangalore, about it high rates of literacy, it’s economic dynamism, it’s entrepreneurial spirit, it’s young student population and it’s newly acquired tag of a smart city. This investor flys to India, proceeds to Mangalore, lands in Mangalore Airport. Then he flips out his smart phone and tries to book an Uber or an Ola, then he s totally puzzled at how such a city which touts its business friendliness and smart city tag doesn’t even have an option of riding on a taxi aggregator, a ride he could have arranged in a matter of seconds with his fingertips and at a very reasonable and competitive cost . Instead he has to ferry his luggage to a counter with a massive quee and await his turn for several minutes so that he can pay an exorbitant price to travel a few kilometres into the city. Outside the airport he has to wave his ‘token’ until the correct driver identifies and sullenly takes him to his parked car. Would any investor having gone through this experience invest in this ‘Smart City’?

The main culprits here are the Airport authorities. They collect hefty fees from the regular taxi drivers, to be able to ply and operate from the airport premises. This is why the taxi drivers are agitated as the Ola and Uber taxis do not have to pay this money. The airport should stop collecting money from taxis and if that is done, this problem will not arise. The airport premises should be free for all public transportation providers. Just like all the sectors in AAI every year tenders are issued and and bidding takes place . These OLA and UBER without paying a single penny pick up passengers!!! Then why issue tender and collect such hefty amount???
Ex: parking fee in the same airport is collected by a firm which has won the tender .. tomorrow any random organisation starts collecting parking fee from you will you support it??
In this case let the AAI authority stop this tender procedure and make it free for any taxi associations to pick up passengers for free without paying the authority

    Dear sir,
You should stop all this illogical arguments. Mangalore is not the only airport in India. Today you go anywhere, even airports in West Bengal , there are choices for passengers. Your arguments were good during “ Ambassador Days “ which your fellows owned when there was no choice. Today there are 15 or more different car manufacturers in our country. There are, similarly, choices every where except Bajpe / Mangalore / Kenjar airport. Be sensible in your observations. The lethargic attitude of the airport authorities has led to this goonda culture disregarding what an ordinary airport passenger should normally get. As someone said , your city is now “ SMART “. You cannot say taxi drivers would like to remain in last century and CONTINUE TAKE THE PASSENGERS FOR A “ RIDE “ !!

I agree with Rajesh and Dinesh. No one has disagreed with them. No politics no religion. Ban these local taxis for a year. Put those goondas behind bars under charges of murder attempt. We are a civilized society and anybody can submit memorandum and no one has the right to take law in ones own hand. Go to court for any solution if you want but perpetuate violence. Political parties should learn that they cannot divide society on communal line because we need to earn our daily bread and politicians survive on robbery.

This is a very serious issue...

Airport management should work as an equal opportunity provider...

All the attackers should be identified, arrested and send to tihar jail

Taxi fares have come down in Bangalore significantly with arrival of Ola and Uber. District administration, police are all hand in glove with these vested interests and that's why Ola and Uber are not taking off to the level observed in Bangalore.
Make Mangalore Airport exclusively available for pick-up by Ola and Uber only for 6 months and subsequently open to all in response to this attack. Have a separate entry exit for Ola and Uber and this can solve.
This is a clear case of few vested interests taking law onto their hands to maintain exclusive rights to rip consumer off.

Airport authority is charging huge rent from these taxi drivers. also they have to pay in advance to airport authority. now if some other will come and take the passenger, what they can do. they had paid the rent to take the passenger from the airport....

    Dear Abbi,
That is flimsy excuse. Even Ola and Uber can also be charged similarly. These guys do not want Ola and Uber because, they are concerned that their profitability will go down. It is ultimately the consumer who will benefit. If a new non-oLa & Uber has to pick passengers, they will also have to pay those charges to the AAI. Not a good reason to prevent consumers from accessing service of Ola and Uber.

I am not taking sides with the taxi drivers. The airport authority is the culprit here. No public transportation provider should be levied a charge for operating from the airport as it is in the service of the public. The taxi drivers have a genuine grievance here. They have to pay hefty fees to the airport authorities and sometimes have to wait for that one customer the whole day to be able to sustain themselves.
There is only one solution here and that is stop collecting operating fees from the taxi drivers and allow them to operate on a level playing field with Ola, Uber or any other provider. After that, if they indulge in any form of rowdyism then stern action should be taken against them and they should be debarred from operating from the airport.

It’s highly unjust and unlawful on the part of the airport authority charging fees for carrying passengers from the airport. This fee has to be abolished altogether since all vehicle owners are paying for entry and parking in the airport premises, in addition to road tax. Then why this additional burden on taxis?

When passengers come out of Airport these taxi drivers never speak politely with them. When u see at them anybody will understand they belongs to whom. With tilak on forehead, saffron shawl on shoulder or waist face and clothes looks like haven't taken shower for many days. What u will expect from these people.

What Airport Authorities are doing. What is the level of security to other people from these goons. It shows lack of security. These Airport taxi drivers should be lathi charged and banned for this action. This is an International Airport what a fearful scene they leave in the mind of passengers and people. We boast this is one of the advanced airport in India.

A request to AAI, these taxis to be banned with immediate effect. On a side note please lower the urinals in the Male toilet It too high.

I don't understand the problem with having Ola and Uber in Mangalore airport.

The RTO and airport authority should take steps to setup their booth as well. Let these airport taxis compete with Ola and Uber rather than doing such unethical things and spoiling the name of Mangalore.

The taxi charges are so high in Mangalore compared to other places. I have come across these poor Ola and Uber drivers who are scared to drop at the airport fearing these lazy barbarians.

See all other airports in India where all these companies are having their booth set up and the passengers have a choice. But in Mangalore there is only one airport taxi which is very expensive and at times the drivers and staff dont know how to behave with passengers also. Ban these airport taxi for creating a mafia at the airport. The Ola and Uber drivers are abused for nothing. Such acts should not be accepted and the airport taxis to be banned immediately. Let them go to hell.
