Puttur: St Philomena P U College successfully organises Diamond Trail - Marathon

Puttur, Nov 1: The Diamond Trail – Marathon - 2018, the green race was held at St Philomena PU College on the motto 'Time to run together is here' on November 1. The inaugurator, Sunil Kumar Shetty, International sportsperson and alumnus of St Philomena PU College inaugurated the programme and said, "Marathon should be encouraged as it increases stamina. "The chief guest, Dr Kishor Kumar C K, the vice chancellor, University of Mangalore, Taranth Shetty, national weightlifter and alumnus of St Philomena College, Akshaya K C, architect, Academy of Liberal Education, Kurunjebagh, Sullia and Fr Vijay Lobo, principal, St Philomena PU College were present on the occasion.

The Green Race - Marathon for men was 21 km and for women 10 km. The race was open to all above 18 years. About 55 members participated in the race in which 43 were men and 12 women.



The inauguration ceremony was followed by the valedictory ceremony of the Diamond Trail - Marathon - 2018 which was held at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of St Philomena PU College on November 1.

The president, Fr Alfred J Pinto, correspondent, St Philomena PU College in his presidential remarks said, "Home is our first school, where we learn a lot of things. In schools and colleges we learn about discipline which is very essential to achieve in life. He advised students to respect their motherland and also Kannada language, which has the power to bring a bond between the people."

Raviraj, national level achiever of St Philomena College expressed his happiness. He recalled his past days and said that the students should give much importance to sports. He said that there are a lot of opportunities in sports and students should make the best use of it.

Ashok K S, alumnus of St Philomena College said that the students should be encouraged to take part in sports so that they can uphold the name and fame of the institution.

Louis Mascarenhas, retired physical director, St Philomena High School said, "Students should go in search of opportunities and if they do so they can definitely reach their goal."

Durgaprasad Rai, president, PTA Association Jayaraj Bhandary, president, alumni association, Fr Rithesh Rodrigues and Fr Sunil George D’Souza, wardens of men’s hostel were present on the occasion.

Louis Mascarenhas, retired physical director, St Philomena High School, Ashok K S, alumnus of St Philomena College and Raviraj, national level achiever of St Philomena College were felicitated on the occasion for their tremendous achievement in the field of sports.

The winners of the marathon were appreciated by distributing the prizes. Under men’s category, Anila Kumara of Alva’s Sports Club secured first prize with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy with certificate. Chandhan Kumar of Vishwa Bharathi Public School secured second prize with a cash prize of Rs 7,000 and a trophy with certificate. Prashanth Kumar M H of Alva’s Sports Club secured third prize with a cash prize of Rs 5000 and a trophy with certificate. Consolation prizes were distributed to H N Sakkappa, Alva’s College Moodbidri. Sangamesh H H , Udupi Track and field. Keerthish Kalamakaz, Mangaluru. Lakshmeesha C S, Subramanya Shabhasdave, Mangaluru. Sunil C K, Chinnaballi S I T, Mangaluru. Dhanraj, Dolpadi and Purushothama, Bettampadi. Under women’s category Chaithra Devadiga of Alva’s Sports Club secured first prize with a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a trophy with certificate. Shalini K S of Alva’s Sports Club secured second prize with a cash prize of Rs 3,000 and a trophy with certificate. Priyanka L D of Alva’s Sports Club secured third prize with a cash prize of Rs 2000 and a trophy with certificate. Consolation prizes were distributed to Priyanka H B, Alva’s Sports Club. Ramya K K of Ramakunja Degree College and Shreys D A, University Campus.

Ravi Shankar, physical director, Punjalkatte was a participant of above 40 years was appreciated for his spirit and was honoured with a trophy.

All the physical directors of different colleges who extended their support to make this event a success were felicitated on the occasion.

Divya, convenor of Marathon, Prakash D’Souza and Rajesh Moolya co-ordinated the programme.

Fr Vijay Lobo, principal, St Philomena PU College welcomed the gathering. Divya, convenor of the Marathon rendered the vote of thanks. Usha Yashwanth, department of Kannada compered the event.
