Beltangady: Two policemen suspended for accepting bribe from illegal explosives transporter

Beltangady, Oct 18: Laxman, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and Ibrahim, head constable of Punjalakatte police station near here have been suspended with regards to the case illegal explosives that were unearthed recently under the limits of Punjalakatte police station.

District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) police had confiscated explosive materials worth lacs of rupees that was being transported in a two-wheeler by Chinnaswamy, a resident of Basavanagudi here on September 24.

The ASI and head constable were suspended as the accused Chinnaswamy told the DCIB police that the ASI and the head constable had already confiscated the explosives and also extracted Rs 25,000 from him by threatening and then informed the matter to the DCIB police.

SP Dr Ravikanthe Gowda had ordered an inquiry with regards to the accusation of the arrested Chinnaswamy against the two policemen through ASP Sonawane Rishikesh Bhagawan and based on the report of ASP, the SP has sent an order to suspend both the ASI and the head constable of Punjalakatte police station.
