Udupi: Man suffering from polio crushed by moving train

Udupi, Oct 17: A man from Kunjoor passed away after coming under the wheels of a moving train. This accident happened on the night of Tuesday October 16.

The deceased has been identified as Somanath Devadiga (43), resident of Kunjoor. He suffered serious injuries to his head in the accident and died on the railway tracks.

Somanath had lost sense and activity in one of the legs after a wall of the house came crashing on his leg when he was young. As has been his practice, he was walking through the railway tracks at Moodabettu, Yermal, toward his home when a train knocked him down. The family members, who were concerned as Somanath did not come home for long, went searching for him. They found his lifeless body lying on the railway tracks.

After the matter was reported to Padubidri police, arrangements were made to take the body to Padubidri primary health centre for postmortem.

Somanath was unmarried. He used to work as coolie and also as assistant in a catering firm. Padubidri police have registered a case.
