Mangaluru: Sahyadri Open Source Community holds Hacktoberfest HackNight

Mangaluru, Oct 15: Sahyadri Open Source Community (SOSC) at Sahyadri hosted Hacktoberfest HackNight in association with K-Tech Innovation Hub on October 13 and 14 at Sahyadri to celebrate the month of open source with Hacktoberfest.

The event was inaugurated by Shashank Krishna, Padma Shri 2019 (nominee) and director of Katmai Infotechnology Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru, followed by interaction with students regarding Smart India Hackathon. Dr R Srinivasa Rao Kunte, principal of Sahyadri College of Engineering and management, Prakhyath Rai, faculty coordinator, asst professor of Information Science, and Arjun Suvarna, chairperson of Sahyadri Open Source Community, addressed the crowd.



The main event started off with a workshop followed by an 18 hour Hackathon where around 120+ students got together in teams and worked on projects under domains education, entertainment and productivity to help innovate and enhance the current system. The projects were then open sourced through GitHub paving way for new open source contributors to be born.

Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open source software run by Digital Ocean in partnership with GitHub and Twilio. It is open to everyone in our global community. It encourages meaningful contributions to open source softwares hosted on GitHub, for beginners and veterans alike leading to personal growth, professional opportunities and community building.

SOSC community is a conglomeration of clubs and individuals. Mozilla Campus Clubs, Developer Student clubs and the GitHub Campus Experts are to name a few of many.

The valedictory function was conducted on October 14, with chief guest Manjesh P Shetty, regional coordinator of Mozilla and alumni of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.
