Fuel price hike: Petrol, diesel prices continue to touch new heights

New Delhi, Oct 13(DC): Fuel prices continued to haunt public as it touched new highs on Saturday.

Petrol rates have been increased by 18 paise per litre, taking its price to Rs 82.66 per litre in Delhi while a litre of diesel is retailing at Rs 75.19 with a hike of 29 paise on Saturday.

Skyrocketing prices of fuel are also continuing to burn holes in the pockets of common man in Mumbai, where petrol is retailing at Rs 88.12 per litre (increased by Rs 0.18) and diesel at Rs 78.82 per litre (increased by Rs 0.31).

Fuel prices have been witnessing a steep rise since the past few months. While the Opposition has repeatedly blamed the union government for not doing enough to keep a check on prices, the latter has maintained that global crude oil prices and other international factors are causing a hike in prices of petroleum products.

On October 4, the union government had announced a cut of Rs 2.50 per litre on both petrol and dieselprices after curbing excise duty on the commodity by Rs 1.50 per litre. While making the announcement, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had also recommended all state governments to slash rates by a further Rs 2.5 to make fuel cheaper by Rs 5.

India is not buying crude everyday in open market, it had agreements with Iran & Russia in the past when we paid a fixed rate for crude oil whether it increases or decreases.
Only public loot is initiated by all oil companies in the guise of commodity market indexes daily. No oil companies were in red during UPA or now.
Whatever the reason they give, taxing 125% on fuel which is only costing less than 37 rupees is a biggest heist by present govt. to cover up its failures.
People speak bonds & other nonsense things which doesn't fill the common man's stomach, inflation is the only result of this loot by present govt.
Why doesn't their leader who gave all the jumlas in 2014 isn't speaking now? Let him ask pardon for his failures first or resign for not being able to fulfill his promises.

Little knowledge is dangerous. UPA government has taken oil bonds from Iran or we can say loans on oil of around 1.5 lakh crore. Which rose now to 2.26 lakh crore and no government can reduce it until 2026.

    RK Shetty,

UPA had made use of Food-for-oil scheme from Iran so that the nation will continue to import food for its citizens. There was surplus payable to Iran which India was ready to, but as per embargo, it could not be paid. What did Modi do ? Once the embargo was lifted, he paid the dues but paid INTEREST too, which was Iran's Islamic finance system.

Now please inform the readers, where does the oil bond fits in ?

Petrol prices after 2014 are subjected to international price and before it was made at 10 Janpath road. So please stop blaming modiji for fuel price hike. Because of modiji petrol price will reach 100 rs when congress was in power it was only 50 rs. Blind gulams will not see the double growth in petrol price.

Indians have believed the 'Jhoot' government so much, that they voted for it believing their lives will change. Modi made them to believe that Congress took all the money from India and stocked it in Switzerland. He said that once BJP comes to power, the shipping of money will stop and the same will be deposited in each poor man's account.

A common man's life has deteriorated. Meaning, Congress never took the money to Switzerland but Modi's chelas have started taking it. Guess how gullible the voters have been !

Don't worry about calibration of pumps. No need to calibrate the prices of daal, tomato, onion or other vegetables. Compare the prices of these items before May 2014 and now. Petrol /Dusel mainly consumed by rich ppl let them pay why they should be provided with subsidised fuel by making a hole in PSU undertakings like BPCL/HPCL/IOC etc.The maximum an average ppl spending more on fuel account of increase is minimum. Any how khangress has certified that ppl earning more than rs 35 per day is above poverty line.

Fekoo junior, nobody is asking for subsidies, just reduce the huge profit margins by refiners (while mentioning PSUs you are conveniently forgetting India's richest private refiner) and the tax burden on consumer. Only rich consume petrol/diesel? What a childish statement! And fyi, as per UNO's Global Hunger Index, 20% of India's children under 5, suffer acute malnutrition. This is how this government cares for the poor. It cares only for the super rich to loot and scoot and all the money collected in the form of taxes is utilized to write their loans off!

Global hunger Index is just some value adjustment. See how many cars were registering a day, during previous regimes? Is it the same number or come down? Buying capacity of People have increased and more vehicles are coming out every day. Modi must have fixed Rs. 300/+ for a litre of Petrol and 250/+ for a little of diesel. I haven't bought a single car till today nor do I know to drive it. But daily new big cars are coming out , that too higher variants are chosen by people.Agree, my earnings have fell. Karthik, we both are poor. But Indians are becoming richer and paying more than 2000 bucks per day for food alone for 2. The rich poor gap has widened. Richer are growing richer. Sacks of Currency, Bullion and registered documents are raining down from many apartments.
