Bantwal, Sep 14: A letter from a police officer to Mescom requesting for electricity to the house of an elderly backward class woman living alone here has received all round praises in social circles.

Kempugudde resident Podi Mugera (67), wife of late Kukkal Mugera staying in Bantwal taluk Amtadi village panchayat limits, depended on kerosene oil lamp for light as she did not have electricity connection in the house. Bantwal town police station SI Chandrashekar who received information of the pitiable condition of the woman, wrote a letter to Bantwal Mescom office requesting to provide electricity to the poor woman.

The woman does not have anybody who can be called her own. Her husband Kukka Mugera was working as a daily wage construction labourer for their living. He died of sickness ten years ago. As their small hut collapsed in rain four years ago, she had to wander from place to place for help.

A house was built by Amtadi gram panchayat under government project for her. The walls of the house are plastered with cement only inside and has a flooring of mud. Life is dark for her as there is no electricity in the house. She does not even have facility of gas cylinder. Her house is on a hill without proper road to it.

Beat policemen Mohan and Malik, while on beat rounds came to know her pathetic condition and informed their town police station SI Chandrashekar. The SI has tried to draw the attention of the department to the plight of the woman.

Even though the government has implemented several projects for backward classes, it is a pity that those do not reach poor people like Podi Mugera. Local resident Kamalaksha in the recent SC/ST meeting informed the condition of the woman to the officials. One has to wait and see its outcome. Sincere efforts by officials and elected representatives are necessary to bring light in the life of the elderly woman.

Nisha Madam, In todays world humanity totally disappeared. If one do not get any reward in return no one will come to help you. You need to have money, land or strength, if not you will be sidelined by everyone. Sangatane,NGO, nun's groups all will appear arround if you have something. Now poor and old lady is empty handed so all are away. Ixb is soooo different than you think from dxb.

It is unfortunate that backward class people do not get facilities allocated to them due to corruption... But SI and constables should be appreciated...
