Sindhanur, May 1: K Virupakshappa, a former MP from Koppal and a former BJP leader from Sindhanur, joined the Congress in a programme here on Tuesday April 30.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Working president S R Patil welcomed the leader into the party and tweeted the same. He said K Virupakshappa joining Congress with his supporters has strengthened the party.

K Virupakshappa was a ticket aspirant from Sindhanur. However, he left the BJP and alleged that state party president B S Yeddyurappa had sidelined him.

Sources say that K Virupakshappa was extremely disappointed when he was not given the ticket to contest from Sindhanur.

Virupakshappa belongs to the Kuruba community and according to sources, he was not awarded ticket as CM Siddaramaiah belongs to the same community and all members of the community had pledged their support to the CM.

The BJP decided to field candidate from a different community to garner maximum support.
