Shikhar Dhawan's family stopped at Dubai airport

New Delhi, Dec 29 (PTI): Shikhar Dhawan had to go through an ordeal when his wife and kids were stopped at Dubai airport from boarding a connecting flight to Cape Town, which hosts India's opening Test against South Africa on January 5.

Apparently, Dhawan's family was asked to show birth certificates and some other documents as identification proofs, which they weren't carrying.

Dhawan vented out his ire on social media after reaching South Africa without his family.

"Absolutely unprofessional from Emirates. I was on my way 2 SA with my family & was told that my wife and kids can't board the flight from Dubai to SA. I was asked to produce birth certificates & other documents for my kids at the airport which we obviously didn't have at that moment," he wrote on his Twitter handle.

"They are now at Dubai airport waiting for the documents to arrive. Why didn't @emirates notify about such a situation when we were boarding the plane from Mumbai? One of the emirates' employee was being rude for no reason at all," the Indian opener said in another tweet.

India, including newly-married skipper Virat Kohli, checked into their hotel in Cape Town on Thursday night.

India will play three Tests, six one-dayers and three T20Is during the 56-day-long tour.

Present days, passports of many countries do not have names of parents, address and other information on them, like passports of India. Many airlines insist birth certificates as valid identity documents for younger children who are traveling with a religious group, sports team, school group, or cultural or social organization, to find out the identification proof. The airlines should have either told this in India or the family should have been advised by ticketing staff.

Any minors travelling to South Africa either with their parents or alone has to produce a birth certificate. Do a search at Emirates website. They should have been stopped in Mumbai itself. Dubai airport personnel are only doing their job. Well done Dubai for stopping an Indian having more awaited problems at the final destination.

Nice one Mr.Jossey!!!PM has to stop traveling and should not invite anyone from those countries to India as chief guests!
And he should call back all the Indians who are working in those countries.
