Bihar Minority Welfare Minister courts controversy with 'Jai Sri Ram' chant

Patna, Jul 30 (PTI): Bihar's Minority Welfare Minister Khurshid alias Feroz Ahmad has earned the ire of Patna Imarat Shariah for chanting 'Jai Sri Ram' in the state assembly premises on July 28.

While the ruling JD(U) defended Khurshid, the opposition criticised him for his utterance.

Khurshid, who also holds sugarcane industries department, had chanted 'Jai Sri Ram' slogan in the assembly premises on July 28, the day Nitish Kumar won the confidence vote.

"Any person who says that he worships both Rasul and Ram, bows his head to every faith, then shouts 'Jai Sri Ram' and indulges himself in such activities, the person is then automatically expelled from Islam," Patna Imarat Shariah, Mufti Sohail Ahmad Qasmi said.

"I have seen his (Khurshid) statements in newspapers and on Whatsapp. I have expressed my opinion against this background ... It is not a fatwa which has been issued by the Imarat Shariah. Considering my responsibility as an Aalim and Mufti, I have expressed my opinion," he said.

The JD(U) MLA from Sikta assembly constituency, however, expressed regret if his action had hurt anyone.

"I do not have any hesitation in saying Jai Sri Ram if it is in the interest of the people of Bihar and benefits them," Khurshid said.

"If my statement has hurt anyone, I tender my apology. Things have been presented by manipulating my statment," he said.

Khurshid said the chief minister had asked him to consider his statement if it hurt peoples' sentiments and tender an apology.

Defending the minority welfare minister, JD(U) spokesman Neeraj Kumar said, "This is the country where great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi used to take the name of Ram and Rahim simultaneously. This a conspiracy to finish Ganga-Jamuni tradition. The minister's slogan was not intended to hurt anyone's religious sentiments."

Senior RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui said the minister got excited and it seemed as if he had got the 'Badshahat' (kingdom) of some place.

NCP leader and former Union minister Tariq Anwar said the person (Khurshid) can stoop to any level to grab power.

"People will teach a lesson to such people," he said.

He doesn't have Emaan. He has lost it for the greed of power.
Tomorrow he can even chant my God is so and so when forced for the greed of power and claim no I just said it as it was needed. Only cowards who don't have guts to defend can talk such and bow down.

He should learn from scratch what kalima touheed is & what is shirk.

Mr Ahmed. Even Siddu lost his Emaan when he wore the scull cap and started praying in the ifthaar party. he also earns some fatwa right? You cannot stomp on a personal choice of a person. Indian constitution does not consider sayingJai shree Ram as a crime.

Mr. Rajesh, any Idol worshipperors and the one who practices Polytheism cannot understand what is Emaan. One can only understand the meaning of Kalima Towheed when he/she is a true follower of it.

I give you the example of a ugly looking slave Hazrat Bilal during Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) era, whom Islam ranks him high for his sacrifices. When he was asked by Polythesiers of Makkah to say God is not one and to shun Islam, he refused to say it, after this he was brutally punished by tying a huge stone on his empty stomach and was dragged in the scorching desert sand, he was so totally bleeding but still his tongue uttered "God is One" "Allahu Ahad". Later he went on to be the 1st black person to say call for prayer (Azan) by standing on the wall of Kaba. He is ranked among the top companion of Prophet and is among Asharatul Mubashara.

Bilal could have easily avoided by saying what has been asked to avoid punishment, but no the person will true faith will sacrifice their head but will never bow down to falsehood or any threat which is against the principles of Islam.

We hear Hindus have 33 crore Gods and for them saying one or two more may not make a difference. But, Muslims believe only one God and hence, he is using "Anukoola shastra" and he is a coward.
