Udupi, Jul 12: A felicitation program for newly elected gram panchayat president and other members of Palimar was organized by Congress standing committee Palimar at Bhuvanendra Wedding Hall here on Saturday July 11.
Urban development and district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake presided over the program. In his address he said, "Both Hejamadi and Shirva were Congress dominated regions, but our belief has been proved wrong as our own party members cheated in the election. As a result we have less hope on Palimar gram panchayat.
We have failed to obtain majority seats, but the villagers gave Jeethendra Furtado a chance to be president as he is a Congress supported candidate. He is also an active and dedicated person in the society.
Sorake also added, "He will put in his best efforts to fulfill all the demands during his term."
After receiving the honour, Jeethendra Furtado thanked all the well wishers and said, "Everybody wants and sees the need for the development and growth of the village. We have faith on Vinay Kumar Sorake. I too had been positive, but got defeated. Now, I am very proud to accept the post of presidentship. I will always act in the interest of the people and urge your support."
Raghavendra Poojary delivered the felicitation speech. Fr Charles Noronha, Palimar Church invoked blessings from above.
Sudheer Devadiga was elected new president of Youth Congress Palimar.
A BJP member Satish Devadiga joined the Congress party along with 25 other party members on this occasion.
The other Palimar gram panchayat members, Shivaram Poojary, B M Abdul, Jayanti S Salian, Viajay Shedti, Hemlata Acharya were felicitated by the committee.
President of the Congress standing committee Gopal Poojary, Deepak Kumar Yermal, Azeez Hejmady, Amitha Poojary, Francis D’souza, BNV representative Dinesh Kotian and others were present at the program.
Naveenchandra Suvarna, president of the felicitation committee welcomed the gathering.
Madhukar Nayak compered the whole program.
