Mangaluru: 14 couples enter matrimony at Rosario Cathedral

Mangaluru, May 3: Rosario mass wedding, an initiative of St Vincent De Paul Society (SVP) Rosario unit, took place on Sunday, May 3 at Rosario Cathedral with 14 couples entering into wedlock in the presence of Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru.

Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu during his homily said, “Mother Mary came to the rescue of the people when she attended the marriage at Cana. She requested Jesus to produce wine which had a shortage. Jesus produced wine in a miracle that would save the family from disgrace. I am happy to see so many couples being getting married here in a simple ceremony. You be rest assured that life will go on smoothly. But whenever you need something, ask Mother Mary, she will not let you down.”

Dr Aloysius D’Souza, after the nuptials called upon the couples to love each other and to be always faithful. He explained how married life is not only sharing happiness, but sharing the sorrow too.

In the reception and cultural ceremony which followed later, Richard Rodrigues from Karnataka agencies was the chief guest. Richard Rodrigues in his address said, “I have been watching the mass community weddings from my childhood because I spent my twenty years in this parish. I was born in a poor family. When I see poor people getting married in a simple ceremony like this, I am moved. Simplicity is the greatest virtue in life. I call upon people to live simple life so that teachings of Jesus are followed in true spirit.”

Herald Monteiro, the president of SVP Central unit congratulated the couples.

Fr J B Crasta welcomed the gathering including the couples, their families, well wishers and media. C J Simon and Mary J Pinto, the president and secretary of SVP respectively, welcomed the people for lunch and proposed vote of thanks.

Dolphy Tauro and Lawrence Pinto led and participated in the traditional 'Opsun dhivnchem' ceremony where the bride is handed over to her newly wedded husband's family.

Sharol Sony Monteiro and Molly D’Souza compered during the liturgical and cultural ceremony respectively.

Joachim Monteiro, Maurice Monteiro, Irine Pais, Pascal Monteiro, Lawrence Pinto, Cony D’Souza, Dolphy Tauro, Irine Martis, Irine Noronha,Leona D'Souza,Philomena Paiva, Victor Menezes, Cynthia Farias, Cyril Rosario, Treza D’Souza, Harold D’Souza, Rita Monteiro and Ivan Pinto, the main pillars of Rosario unit of St Vincent De Paul with John D’Silva the secretary of pastoral council were present among others.

All the donors were presented with roses as token of appreciation.
