Vancouver, Sep 12: The Guardian Angels Parish at downtown celebrated the Annual Feast of Nativity, here on September 11.

An unexpected crowd of more than 150 Mangalorean families from all over Richmond, Surrey, IC Dealta and North Vancouver took part in the celebrations.

The celebration began with the blessing of ‘Novem’ (corn) by the parish priest Fr Rudolf V D'Souza followed by a procession to the statue of Blessed Mother, honouring her with flowers and hymns.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided by Fr Boniface Cyril D'Souza and concelebrated by Fr Mario, Fr Jerome, Fr Jerry and Fr Rudy. Fr Jerald D'Souza preached the homily.

After the Holy Eucharistic celebration, a cultural programme was held after which the traditional meal was served at the Knights of Columbus Millennium Hall of the Parish.

During the celebration Fr Rudolf V D'Souza was felicitated for his forthcoming 25th Jubilee year of priesthood by Fr Jerald D'Souza.

Congratulations to the Mangalorean Catholics for celebrating Monthifest at the Guardian Angels Church, Vancouver this year. We are privileged to have the Carmelite priests of Mangalore in Vancouver to guide and support this great event where more than 40-50 Mangalorean families join to celebrate Mother Mary’s birthday every year.

Five years ago Fr. John Pinto OCD who is presently in Calgary and Fr. Jerry D’Souza OCD started this traditional Monthifest celebration in Vancouver with the help of a few families and this tradition has continued every year with new families participating in this celebration.

Many thanks to those who have contributed their time and efforts to make this celebration a grand event especially by supporting the organizing committee. We appreciate David Pinto and Joe D’Souza together with your families for working hard and coordinating with others to organize this special event. Mother Mary will bless you all abundantly.

Special thanks to Fr. Rudy for providing the church as well as the hall to celebrate this year’s Monthifest. Our best wishes for your forth coming 25 years of your priesthood. May the Lord bless you with good health and the zeal to continue the good work in spreading the word of God.
