Mangaluru: Re-include chapter on Narayana Guru in class 10 textbook – J R Lobo

Mangaluru, May 18: "Brahmashri Narayana Guru is not a common man, but a great spiritual leader. Instead of honouring a great social reformer, the BJP-led union and state governments are dishonouring him," said former MLA J R Lobo.

He was addressing a press meet at Congress Bhavan here on Wednesday May 18.

Lobo alleged that the state government has dropped a chapter on Narayana Guru from the class 10 textbook. "Though we have demanded to name Mangaluru railway station after Narayana Guru and Mangaluru International Airport after Koti-Chennayya, the union government is not showing any response for the demand."

He also said that the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah took initiative to celebrate Narayana Guru Jayanthi.

"When Narayana Guru's tableau was rejected from the Republic Day parade by the union government, we assumed that it may not have been done intentionally. But now the BJP government is intentionally neglecting a great leader," he said.

He also demanded the state government to re-include the chapter of Narayana Guru in the class 10 textbook.

Congress leader T K Sudhir, Shahul Hammed, Prakash Salian and others were present.

    Mr. JR Lobo is trying to play politics just as Siddu also did. It is true that he may have many followers. But most of his works were published in Tamil, Malayalam and Sanskrit. We should see him as freedom fighter and introduction of his work in the text book is not same as introduction of Gita or Sanatana dharma. I read the article more than 2 times, to see which work of Narayana Guru inspired Mr. Lobo to put forward his demand. I could not find any. For the unintiated, please read in this link on Sri Narayana Guru. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narayana_Guru. Even if politics is the reason, we may need to find out how Kerala (state he was born) and TN have recognized his work.

    How about including another Chapter on Mr Modi....!!!!????? His life as tea seller (at wadnager station), His digital camera and email, his fight with crocodile, his begging experience, his Himalayan experience, his MA in enire political science, His corruption free Governance, His achievements in Acche Din, Fuel price reduce etc. If we list everything it will not be a chapter but it will be a book for the lifetime.

    In present Government all are uneducated and illiterate. The main prof is, for Lady Hill circle in Mangalore they want Narayan guru name but in syllabus they deleted his name at all. Wha re wha. Future will be very dark for childrens. The bad days may come if Government gives Guns in childrens hands

    Lot is being done in Narayana Guru name in Sivagiri and in other parts of Kerala. All done by BJP. This Gurus pic is also on BSP banner in UP and now used by BJP. Lobo just wants to stay relevant by PC

    If children are made to study about all political figures then when are children going to study about thier career shaping subjects?. Not mentioning that any career opportunities are left in India under this govt except the one they are made to study as future vote banks candidates, activists and to learn self-defence gun training. Do they have to go to school for this training?.

    I think Lobo Sir is a great follower and Bhakth of Sree Narayana Guru. I think all happily renamed some circle after Sri Narayana Guru recently without any fuss. Good.

    RSS and Aryans always desire in caste system. Guru Narayan worked hard to have casteless society and provided social justice to the downtrodden. So he built different worship. These Aryans instigate downtrodden Dravidian against the society in the name of religion to develop hatred and fear. Rightly B.janardhan Poojari took step Archakas from men and women of downtrodden society. But Aryans leave Dravidian in difficult time. They say nationalism and their children get education in foreign countries and settle. We must analyse the situation. Elderly people must tell younger people truth. It's quite natural they left Guru Narayan teaching because it's reachable to common man and no intermediatery required between man and God relationship

    Why break your head to suggest whose name to be included in text books. Let them include whomever person they want why in particular narayana? Makes no difference for modern children while they are exposed to everything at the age of secondary school.
