Volvo-Eicher Buses to Hit Roads in 2010

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) The joint venture between heavy vehicle manufacturers Volvo and Eicher Motors will begin production of buses in the second half of 2010.

"Production will start in the second half of the next year," said Eicher managing director and chief executive Siddhartha Lal here Tuesday.

"We will come out with at least 100 buses a month once the production begins," Lal told reporters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit.

"We are also in talks with various state governments, especially for the JNNURM scheme (Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission), which would need a lot of vehicles," he said.

The JNNURM is a central government initiative aimed at fast-track planned development in identified cities.

He also said the full range production of semi-floor buses would be started in the second half of next year.
