Karkala: Nitte Pro-Kabaddi league 'Srinidhi Memorial Cup' held

Karkal, Apr 3: “Rural people should preserve and develop rural sports,” opined Nitte campus registrar, Prof A Yogish Hegde.

He was speaking after inaugurating Nitte Pro-Kabaddi league 'Srinidhi Memorial Cup' held in memory of Nitte technological college student and state level Kabaddi player Srinidhi Asranna who passed away in car accident in last June.

“The death of state level Kabaddi talent is sad. Therefore, this tournament is being held in his memory,” he said.

Udupi district Amateur athletic association president Ashok Adyantaya chaired the programme. “Kabaddi sports should get greater recognition. We can see national level professional Kabaddi tournament in doordarshan. We look forward to the day when Kabaddi is included in Olympics,” he said.

Guests of honour Panduranga Rao, Kateel temple’s Harinarayana Asranna, Nitte technological college student welfare dean Dr Subrahmanya Bhat and student welfare officer Shekar Poojary were on the dais.

Physical education advisor Ganesh Poojary welcomed. Student Navel spoke about late Srinidhi. Student Sachin proposed vote of thanks. Computer science department co lecturer Roshan Fernandes compered the programme.
