Toll rises to 14 in UP road accident


Lucknow, May 5 (IANS): The toll in the Etah road accident in Uttar Pradesh early Friday morning has risen to 14 with the death of the four persons who were critically injured, police said.

The incident occurred when a mini truck carrying over 40 passengers turned turtle and fell into a canal in Sarayneem on the Agra-Jalesar road while returning from a pre-wedding event.

Ten persons died instantly while two dozen were injured.

Four of the critical ones passed away during treatment at a district hospital in Agra. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh each to the dependents of those killed and Rs 50,000 to those critically injured in the accident from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, (PMNRF).

District Magistrate Amit Kishore, SSP Satyarth Aniruddh Pankaj reached the accident spot in the morning and oversaw the rescue and relief operation, an official told IANS. 

The deceased include 65-year-old Grand Singh, Mukesh (20), Lavish (21), Prashant Yadav (12), Padma Singh, Vijay, Shaitan Singh, Pravendra Fauji, Bunny Singh, Omveer, Padma Singh, Neetu and Kulli.
