Indian youths need jobs, not vigilantism: Yechury

New Delhi, Apr 4 (IANS): CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday flayed the Narendra Modi government for what he said was giving sops to corporates and said the youth need jobs and not vigilantism.

"Two third of the country's population comprises youths; they need jobs and not this distraction of 'gau raksha' (cow protection) armies or vigilantism of anti-Romeo squads," the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader said in a video message posted on Facebook.

"This conspiracy to distract the youth through emotional issues like cow vigilantism needs to be defeated."

The CPI-M leader said if unpaid loans totalling Rs 11 lakh crore were recovered from corporates, crores of rupees given annually to corporates as tax rebates is stopped, the revenue thus generated could be used to develop infrastructure and create lakhs of jobs for the youth.

"We need such policies and not those which play with religious and communal emotions, as is being done," Yechury said.
