There are defects in you, not in EVMs: BJP to Mayawati

New Delhi, Mar 15 (PTI): The BJP today ridiculed BSP supremo Mayawati's allegations of EVM tampering and asked her to "gracefully accept the people's mandate".

"When you win, EVMs are right. When you lose, EVMs are wrong. This shows that there are some defects in you (Mayawati)," Union Minister M Venkaiah told reporters outside Parliament.

He said Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are under the control of the Election Commission (EC) which has dubbed the the allegations as "wrong".

"You should gracefully accept the people's mandate. People's have rejected you (BSP)," Naidu said.

Party's UP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said, "When Mayawati and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav had won the elections, the EVMs were okay but when BJP won, EVMs are not okay. Mayawati should get herself treated by some good doctor."

He claimed that Mayawati had supported the wealthy and not the dalits which led to her poll debacle.

The BSP supremo had alleged that the BJP won with a thumping majority as the EVMs had been rigged and had sought a re-election.

She demanded that re-polling be held through ballot papers.

However, the EC had said that there was "no merit" in her allegations of EVM tampering.

After BSP supremo Mayawati, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today claimed that EVMs may have been tampered with in Punjab to keep AAP out of power. He yesterday sought use of ballot papers in next month's municipal polls in the national capital.

Driven by the Modi wave, the BJP, along with its ally, had stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh after 14 years, securing 325 of the 403 assembly seats.

On the other hand, the SP won 47 seats while its ally the Congress got seven seats. The BSP won 19 seats.

Not Just Mayawati, here are several others who’ve raised doubts over credibility of EVMs.
In the 2009 general elections, BJP had alleged that if the party doesn’t perform well, it would be primarily due to the fact that the EVMs “could have been tampered with”.

If no EVM fraud then NDA will get 320 seats. Fraud could be possible only in Congi ruled states. We are working to minimise it. Subramanian swamy tweeted 7:39 PM - 1 May 2014.

After defeat, party’s then PM candidate L K Advani had raised questions about the credibility of the EVMs, and said that the country should go back to the older system of ballot papers.

In 2010, a trio of scientists - Hari K. Prasad, Rop Gonggrijp and J. Alex Halderman - refuted claims of security made by the Election Commission and demonstrated how they can be hacked.

During a mandatory mock poll in Jorhat,Assam on April 3, 2014, every time a button was pressed, the vote went in favour of BJP.

An Independent Corporator from Sakinaka voted for himself and still he got zero votes. New EVM scam unfolding in Maharashtra.

Many countries have moved to get rid of them. In 2006 Dutch TV aired a documentary showing how easy it was to hack the EVMs that were about to be used in their general election. The machines were subsequently withdrawn and the Netherlands went back to paper ballots.

    Germany has declared EVMs unconstitutional.

And, after spending close to $75 million on its EVMs, Ireland found them to be so insecure they literally scrapped them.

How long Election commision of India need to realise 'digital' technology is not completely safe even end to end encryption is being hacked?
It is reasonable to question when both SP-Congress and BSP combined secured more than BJP in total votes?

BJP also did the same thing before 'Mr. When can i do'. BJP leaders like Subramanian Swamy, L.K. Advani, GVL Narasimha Rao were against this EVMs. After Modi winning the elections 2014 BJP changed their tune and now EVMs are more reliable for them. Mayawati not saying EVMs are defective but she is saying EVMs are tampered by the BJP agents with help of Election commission and she have the proof with her. Still EC not ready to hear this and behaving like BJP agent. We need ballot system to be back.

EC on its part should listen to this complaint and address the issue democratically and show transparency during electoral practice. This EVM should have a built-in log of all transactions and events recoded with full details. EC should take a print out of this and present it to the complaintant and in the parliament along with EVM's own built-in maintenance, service, down time, and processing log. In fact, EVM is comparatively better option than ballot paper provided all these records are maintained in the machine and could be downloaded by authorized people.

Most of the developed world, including Germany, Netherlands, Ireland and also the states of California and Florida in the USA, has rejected EVMs after using or studying them and finding them unsafe. Indeed, a return to the paper ballot or use of the VVPAT systems may be the best alternative for India.

If there is no fault/hack in EVM, obviously Mayavati helped BJP's huge victory indirectly. There is less big winners in BJP and all close call victory.
