China compensates those injured in Tianjin blasts


Beijing, Sep 15 (IANS): China has has started compensating people injured in August 12 warehouse explosions in Tianjin, authorities said on Tuesday.

As many as 600 people are eligible for compensation. It will be given according to the severity of the injuries and the degree of impact on the victims' lives, Xinhua quoted sources with the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Binhai New Area, where the blasts occurred.

The blasts killed 165 people, including 99 firefighters and 11 police officers.

Eight people, mainly firefighters, are still missing. More than 100 people remain in hospital.

The family of each dead fireman has received 2.3 million yuan (about $361,300) in compensation.
