Haryana gets 21 all-women police stations

Chandigarh, Aug 28 (IANS): Promising a better policing environment to make women feel secure in approaching police, the Haryana government on Friday launched all-women police stations in all 21 districts of the state.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the first all-women police station at Mansa Devi complex in Haryana's Panchkula town, adjoining Chandigarh.

"The all women police stations are a gift for women of Haryana on the eve of the festival of Raksha Bandhan," Khattar said.

The remaining 20 women police stations were inaugurated by ministers, MPs and legislators in various districts.

"Investigation of crimes and all cases related to women will be done by only women police officers at these police stations," Haryana director general of police (DGP) Yashpal Singhal said.

"The women police stations will help women to get their complaints lodged freely and without any hesitation," the DGP said.

Each woman police station would have a minimum strength of 38-40 women police personnel, including one woman inspector (SHO) and other staff.

Each such station would have jurisdiction over the entire district.

However, women can lodge complaints either at the local police station or at the women police station.
