Buenos Aires most liveable city in Latin America: Survey

Buenos Aires, Aug 20 (IANS): Argentina's capital Buenos Aires has been named as the most liveable city in Latin America, according to a global survey.

Buenos Aires was listed on top of the Economist Intelligence Unit's annual liveability ranking for Latin America, ranking 62 out of 140 surveyed cities globally, Xinhua news agency quoted Argentine daily Clarin as saying on Wednesday.

It was followed among Latin American cities by Santiago (rank-63), Chile (64) and San Juan, Puerto Rico (67), the daily reported.

The survey looked at the liveability criteria, healthcare, education, stability, culture, environment and infrastructure.

"Latin American cities get great marks in the area of culture and environment, but not so much in stability," the newspaper quoted one of the survey's editors Jon Copestake as saying.

The newspaper credited Buenos Aires's extensive and varied cultural offering for its high score in quality of life surveys.

Australian city Melbourne is ranked as the most liveable city in the world, followed by Austrian capital Vienna, Canada's Vancouver and Toronto, according to the survey.
