'Too early to determine perpetrators of Bangkok blast'

Bangkok, Aug 18 (IANS): It is too early to determine the motives or perpetrators of an explosion here that killed at least 27 people, Thailand's foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

"The Thai government expresses its deep condolences to the victims and families of the blast, in which an improvised explosive device went off at the Rachaprasong intersection in Bangkok about 7 p.m. (local time)" on Monday, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying.

The perpetrators will be brought to justice, the ministry added.

Emergency services and first aid responders were on the scene and the injured have been given full medical attention.

"The public is urged to remain calm and monitor the situation regularly while security agencies conduct their operations," the ministry said.
