Former union minister B.K. Handique is dead


Guwahati, July 26 (IANS): Bijoy Krishna Handique, a former union minister and a Congress leader from Assam, died at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital on Sunday. He was 80.

Doctors said Handique was admitted on Saturday evening due to heart related ailments.

A contemporary of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Handique represented the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency for six consecutive times since 1991.

Handique held several portfolios in the union government.
