Two die as train coaches fall into Pakistan canal


Islamabad, July 2 (IANS): At least two people were killed and several injured after two coaches of a train fell into a canal near Pakistan's Gujranwala city on Thursday, a media report said.

More than 25 passengers have been rescued by the divers of Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122, The News International reported.

The bogies fell into the canal after the track over the bridge collapsed in Moza Chananwan area of Gujranwala.

Senior General Manager of Pakistan Railways, Javed Anwar, said the engine driver and fireman were also rescued.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over the incident.
