Mangalore, Oct 3: The students of Derik's Chess School here delivered impressive performance in the State Under 7 and Under 9 Boys and Girls Chess Championship held at State Youth Centre, Bangalore from September 29 to October 1.


Ankitha, Anantharam and Shalon

Seven-year-old chess prodigy Anantharam R U of Sharada Vidyalaya has won the State Under 7 Chess Championship with a cakewalk of 6 points in as many rounds. He proved too strong for his category as he claimed the title with a round to spare. The DK District has retained this title for the second consecutive year as the last year's winner was Shabdik Varma of SDM Ujire.

In Under 7 Girls category, Ankitha R of Sharada Vidyalaya scored 4 points in 5 rounds to claim Runner Up title. In Under 9 Girls Category, Shalon J Pais of St. Agnes Engish Primary scored 4 points in 5 rounds and was placed Runner Up.

All the aforesaid three have qualified to represent the State in the upcoming National Championships during November.
