Mangalore, Oct 1: Daijiworld's regular reader and former UAE resident Lancy Vaz resides just at the corner of Kuntikan junction where the ghastly road mishap occurred, claiming two lives on the spot.
He made available more details on the accident and also sent us more photographs which he himself clicked much before any mediamen arrived on the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the rickshaw driver was at no fault at all. He was arriving with two passengers from Bijai and patiently waiting for the traffic to pass so that he could cross over towards the Derebail road. The lorry carrying rice bags tried to overtake an oil tanker and in the process skidded and fell entirely over the rickshaw. The tanker also brushed against the lorry but its driver sped away without stopping, so that he could avoid all problems.
Lancy Vaz says it took quite some time to pull the lorry that had landed on the rickshaw smashing it totally. Heavy earth-moving equipment was requisitioned at once and was put into action. With the help of the public and the police, the bodies were retrieved. As reported already, two ocupants including the driver died on the spot, while the condition of the third is reported to be critical.
