Mangalore, Oct 1: In a move to enhance the living standards of the fishermen of the state, the government, under its Matsyashraya scheme will provide 5,000 houses to the fishermen.

This was informed by minister for ports and fisheries and in-charge minister for DK district B Nagaraj Shetty on Saturday.

Each house would cost Rs 30,000 under the scheme, he added.

DK district will receive 400 houses while Udupi and Uttara Kannada will receive 520 and 400 houses respectively. The government has plans to promote inland fishing activities as well, he stated adding that steps will be taken to provide loan at 4 per cent interest to fishermen.
